But how many doses are actually in a Wegovy pen? The answer depends on the strength of the pen you’re using and whether you’re following the manufacturer’s instructions, or considering alternative dosing approaches like click counting.

Here’s everything you need to know about how Wegovy pens work and how long each one lasts.

Manufacturer-Approved Use: 4 Doses per Pen

Each Wegovy pen, regardless of the dose, is designed to deliver four weekly doses. The pens come in the following strengths:

0.25 mg
0.5 mg
1.0 mg
1.7 mg
2.4 mg

So, for example, if you’re prescribed 1.0 mg per week, a 1.0 mg pen will last four weeks.

This dosing format is consistent across all strengths:

What About Click Counting?

Some patients have discovered that the dial makes audible "clicks" as it turns, and are using these clicks to estimate and extract smaller doses from higher-dose pens, most often from the 2.4 mg pen. This off-label practice, called click counting, aims to stretch the pen across more than four doses.

Important: This method is not approved by the manufacturer or Medsafe. Click counting introduces risks such as inaccurate dosing, reduced medication effectiveness, and potential contamination. The pen must also be discarded 6 weeks after first use, limiting how many doses can be safely extracted.

What Affects How Long a Pen Lasts?

Your Dose: Higher doses mean each pen runs out faster. If you’re on a 2.4 mg weekly dose, you’ll need a new pen every month.
